Two NASCAR Sprint Cup Teams Penalized
Earlier today, NASCAR handed out fines, suspensions, and penalties to two NASCAR Sprint Cup teams. After post-race inspection, 2 teams were found in violation of the 2010 NASCAR Rule Book.
Clint Bowyer, driver of the No.33 Cheerios Chevy for RCR, and team owner Richard Childress was both docked 150 points in both driver championship standings and owner standing. Clint Bowyer, who won the first race of the chase, had gained 11 spots from 12th to 2nd has fallen back to 12th after his penalty. Shane Wilson, crew chief for Bowyer, has been suspened until Nov. 3, placed on probation until Dec. 31, and fined $150,000. Car Chief Chad Haney has also been suspended until Nov.3 and placed on probation until Dec.31.
Michael McDowell, driver of the No. 46 Whitney Motorsports Chevy Impala, was also found in violation after his post-race inspection. McDowell and team owner Dusty Whitney was docked 50 points in both driver championship standings and owner standings. Jermey Lafaver, crew chief for McDowell, has been suspended until Nov. 3, placed on probation until Dec. 31st and fined $50,000.
